Objectives of the site
To create an official content rich site for fans of the Channel 4 TV
show Deal Or No Deal, and to promote the Deal Or No Deal brand and
associated merchandise. The site receives massive volumes of traffic
from a global audience and must be quick to load, whilst being flexible
to update by content managers. The site also needs to meet
accessibility guidelines.
Meeting the objectives
The site is simple, and php based with includes for headers, footers
and side panels to enable easy creation of new pages. The navigation is
flash, powered from an XML document. This xml file is used to create a
static navigation also, to enable no-flash viewers to navigate the
site. Server side cacheing is used to store the pages, this increases
the speed in which pages load, and reduces strain on the server.
There are also some additional PHP based functions to enhance
functionality, such as a PHPBB bulletin board, and a bankers respect
test.
